BOOK FAIR! BOOK FAIR! BOOK FAIR! – The Book Fair is this week at GHES in room 220! It will be open during the school day from 9:00am – 3:30pm on October 31.  On November 1 and 2 the fair will be open from 9:00am – 5:00pm.  For those out of town family & friends, the Online Book Fair is available from October 24 -November 7.  If you would like to volunteer to help make this an awesome event, please check out the link below!

Fundraiser for GHES 3rd and 4th Grades – The GHES 3rd and 4th grades will be raffling off themed baskets to help raise money to attend Weather Day at Nationals Park!  They need your help collecting items for the baskets.  Below are the grade level themes:

Kindergarten – Crafter’s Dream (Crafting)
First Grade – Willy Wonka’s Candy Factory (Candy)
Second Grade – Bake Up Some Memories (Baking)
Third Grade – Take It Outside (Sports)
Fourth Grade – Family Night In (Game Night)
Fifth Grade – One Stop Party Shop (Celebrations Basket)

Please donate new items to your child’s teacher by Wednesday, November 8. Information about the raffle will be sent home on the same day.  Thank you so much for your help and support!

International Night – International Night is November 16 from 6:30 to 8:30pm.   • 11/3 – 2nd Cup of Coffee/Merienda/Parent Meeting/PBOM – Dr. Ennis invites parents to school for a parent meeting and then into the classrooms to read to their child’s class (or another class that could use a reader). Flu Vaccine Clinic – The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services will conduct free injectable flu vaccine clinics on November 9 from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. for children 18 and under at John F. Kennedy, Northwest, and Rockville high schools. These clinics will be open to any school-aged child. DC United Student Achiever – The DC United Soccer Team holds an annual “Student Achievement Program,” which offers families a great experience to attend a DC United game.  The attached flier permits one FREE ticket (with the purchase of an adult ticket) for a Glen Haven student. The Sunday, October 22nd game vs. the NY Red Bulls will be the last game DC United will every play at RFK Stadium.  Families will also be offered discounted tickets for $30.00.  All schools who participate will be entered into a competition to win a DC United Player Appearance. The deadline for All ticket requests need to be mailed directly to DC United by Friday, October 13th. Please see the attached flier for more information.

Gifted Child Committee Community Meeting – On Wednesday, 9/27 from 7:00-9:00pm, join GTAMC and the MCCPTA Committee for a community meeting to discuss the obstacles that prevent talented disadvantaged children from developing their full potential. Announcements

First PTA Meeting of the Year! – Tuesday, September 19, at 6:30 – 8:00pm.  Please come and join the PTA for free pizza at 6:30.  The meeting will begin at 7:00pm.  Feel free to bring the kids.  Child care during the meeting is provided by Alpha Best.

Father’s Take your Child to School Day – On September 19, father figures are encouraged to take their child to their classrooms between 8:40 – 9:00am.  From 9:00 – 9:30am light refreshments will be served in the cafeteria.  Then dads can visit classrooms from 9:30 – 10:00am.

Volunteers– Remember, all Montgomery County Public School volunteers must complete a child abuse and neglect training.  The training takes approximately half an hour to complete.

Get Involved! – There are many ways to become involved in your child’s education at GHES:

  • Join the PTA – The PTA strives to enhance collaboration between families and the school by providing meaningful events, programs, and learning experiences.
  • Become a Room Parent – Room Parents assist in communication between the teacher and the class parents. This supportive role can truly enrich the classroom environment.
  • Volunteer at GHES – The school can always use help with different events and programs provided throughout the school year.  Remember, prior to volunteering, an online training must be completed.  http://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/childabuseandneglect/

Spirit Gear – Get your eagle wear and be ready for School Spirit Day.  The PTA is selling youth and Adult T-shirts for $10 – $15.  Magnets and water bottles with the GHES logo are also available for purchase.
