Reminder: Federal Impact Aid Forms – Please fill out the Federal Impact Aid Forms and return them to Glen Haven Elementary School.  This form is a one page survey that asks about active-duty military and government employment.  The number of forms returned will impact the amount of grant money provided to GHES through the Federal Impact Aid Program.  Please turn in these forms!!

Basket Raffle – The GHES 3rd and 4th grade is raffling off themed baskets to help raise money to attend Weather Day at the Nationals Park! Raffle tickets are still available for purchase Monday 11/20 and Tuesday 11/21.  Baskets will be raffled off on Wednesday, 11/22nd!  Each ticket is 50 cents or 15 tickets for only 5 dollars.

International Night – International Night is this week, November 16th from 6:30 to 8:30 pm. Please come and join us in celebrating the diverse cultures and customs of our GHES community.  There will be a fashion show and delicious dishes to enjoy.

Mental Health Fair – The Montgomery County School Psychologist Association is hosting its first annual mental health fair at CESC (Carver Educational Service Center) on November 13th from 5:00 -7:00pm.  Topics will include LGBTQ, Stop and Think strategies, Early Childhood Development, Yoga and Mindfulness, Bilingual Assessments, Emotional Intelligence, Pet Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Anxiety, and Sleep Hygiene. Psychologists will be facilitating mini group sessions for children and parents in addition to hosting several informational tables. Please see the flyer for additional information.

Downcounty Consortium – On Monday, November 6th at 6:30PM, come hear Downcounty parents and Cluster Coordinators testify on behalf of the capital improvement needs of our school and all of the Downcounty schools.  The testimony will take place at the Board of Education at 850 Hungerford Drive, Rockville.  The Downcounty Consortium (our area) specific chapter is here: http://gis.mcpsmd.org/cipmasterpdfs/CIP19_Chap4_DCC.pdf

Flu Vaccine Clinic – The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services will conduct free injectable flu vaccine clinics on Nov. 9 from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. for children 18 and under at John F. Kennedy, Northwest and Rockville high schools. These clinics will be open to any school-aged child. The clinics are free, but registration is required due to limited vaccine supplies.  Please see the link for more information.

Kids Helping Kids Food Drive – Please donate any non-perishable foods.  The class that collects the most food (in items) will win an ice cream party.  Food will be donated to the Glen Haven Pantry and the Maryland Food Bank.

DC United Student Achiever – The DC United Soccer Team holds an annual “Student Achievement Program,” which offers families a great experience to attend a DC United game.  The attached flier permits one FREE ticket (with the purchase of an adult ticket) for a Glen Haven student. The Sunday, October 22nd game vs. the NY Red Bulls will be the last game DC United will every play at RFK Stadium.  Families will also be offered discounted tickets for $30.00.  All schools who participate will be entered into a competition to win a DC United Player Appearance. The deadline for All ticket requests need to be mailed directly to DC United by Friday, October 13th. Please see the attached flier for more information.

  • 10/9 – Columbus Day – Open House for Parents/Guardians – Feel free to visit your child’s classroom. Instruction will follow the normal routines.  Please check-in at the office and get a “visitor” sticker.
  • 10/13 – 2nd Cup of Coffee/Merienda/PBOM – On the second or third Friday of the month, Dr. Ennis invites parents to school to meet and then head into the classrooms to read to their child’s class (or another class that could use a reader). Father’s Take your Child to School Day – On September 19, father figures are encouraged to take their child to their classrooms between 8:40 – 9:00am.  From 9:00 – 9:30am light refreshments will be served in the cafeteria.  Then dads can visit classrooms from 9:30 – 10:00am.
