Big Learning, a non-profit organization founded by the Montgomery County Council of PTAs (MCCPTA), offers quality, immersion-based foreign language classes. With FLES, children gain confidence and comfort in the hearing and speaking of a new language – opening their doors to a global 21st century.
Class Descriptions
Introductory K-1 (Spanish): Children begin to speak a new language through interactive storytelling featuring favorite stories and familiar characters. Students delight in singing, cooperative role play and creative hands-on activities in a brand new language. The Little Red Riding Hood is the new story for spring and children will present a play for parents at the end of the session.
Beginner 2-5 (Spanish): Children learn the traditions and customs of another country, sing songs and taste new foods – all while learning to speak another language in a fun, informal setting. Children practice speaking as they participate in familiar classroom routines, engage in interactive small group activities, and play imaginative games. The themes for spring are favorite sports and activities, typical and favorite breakfast foods and the farm – and the session ends by sharing a typical Spanish breakfast in class.*
*Three students registered this fall; at least three more registrants are needed for class to run this spring.
