Principal Selection Process Meeting – As you know, Principal Ennis is taking a new position with MCPS and will be leaving our school in June.  The principal selection process has begun and as a part of that process the Office of School Support and Improvement will be holding a meeting on Monday, March 19 at 7:00pm.  Eric Wilson (Director of OSSI) will meet with the GHES community to seek your input regarding the characteristics and qualities that you desire in the new GHES principal.  Everyone is encouraged to attend, learn about the selection process, and share your thoughts.

 

GHES PTA Call for Volunteers

Below are brief descriptions of the leadership positions — feel free to contact anyone on the nominating committee if you are interested and have any questions. Whether you can contribute a couple of hours next year or might welcome a leadership role, your help will make a difference!

 

PRESIDENT: Presides at all meetings of the PTA and of the executive board and coordinates the work of the officers and committees of the PTA.

VICE-PRESIDENT (2): Acts as aide to the president and will supervise committees and their activities as assigned by the president.

TREASURER: Looks after the money!

SECRETARY: The secretary records the minutes of all meetings, keeps records and membership documents and performs other delegated duties as assigned by the president.

DELEGATE (2): Attends monthly PTA delegate meetings as Glen Haven’s representative.

 

COMMITTEE CHAIRS

Membership: Organizes membership drive at the start of the year.

Staff Appreciation: Plans and coordinates staff appreciation events throughout the year.

Spirit Wear: Organizes sale of school spirit wear.

Communications: Oversees list-serve, sends out weekly updates.

Fundraising and Community Events: Plans and organizes fundraising and community events

Translation: Coordinates translation for meetings and PTA materials.

Room Parents: Coordinates room parents.

After School Activities: Organizes and coordinates after school activities.

Free English Class – Free English Class will meet every Thursday from 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. This class will focus on conversational English and Language skills. Please come and join us!

  • 3/12 – Group Picture Day – Students in the following clubs/groups will be photographed: Green Eagles, Chorus, Principal Advisory Board, Drama, Safety Patrol, Peace Makers, Classroom Ambassadors, and Art Club.
  • 3/16 – Bingo and Raffle Night- Come to GHES from 6:00pm – 8:00pm for a night of bingo, raffles, and refreshments! All students who attend will earn 25 dojo points with random drawings to earn even more!

Misc/Community News:

County Education Budget Meeting – Find out how budget decisions are made, what the county is doing today to get ready for FY 2019, and the opportunities residents have to influence budget decisions.  The next meeting will take place on March 14 from 6:30pm to 8:30 pm at Robert Frost Middle School (9201 Scott Dr., Rockville).
