Glen Haven Weekly Scoop: Week of October 8


Lunch/Recess Aide Substitutes – If you are occasionally free between 11:00am – 1:00pm and would like to support GHES please consider becoming a Lunch Hour Aide (LHA) Substitute. See the link for more details.

A+ School Rewards – On October 6, 2017, GHES has the opportunity to participate in and earn CASH from A+ School Rewards, a great fundraising program run through your local Giant! Visit  and select Savings & Rewards. Follow the prompts to create your online account. You will need your 12-digit Giant Card number and the School ID # 00851

Kids Helping Kids Food Drive – Please donate any non-perishable foods.  The class that collects the most food (in items) will win an ice cream party.  Food will be donated to the Glen Haven Pantry and the Maryland Food Bank.

GHES Movie Night – The PTA needs your help.  Please check out the link to see the different ways you can volunteer for the upcoming Movie Night on 10/20.

DC United Student Achiever – The DC United Soccer Team holds an annual “Student Achievement Program,” which offers families a great experience to attend a DC United game.  The attached flier permits one FREE ticket (with the purchase of an adult ticket) for a Glen Haven student. The Sunday, October 22nd game vs. the NY Red Bulls will be the last game DC United will every play at RFK Stadium.  Families will also be offered discounted tickets for $30.00.  All schools who participate will be entered into a competition to win a DC United Player Appearance. The deadline for All ticket requests need to be mailed directly to DC United by Friday, October 13th. Please see the attached flier for more information.

Book Fair – The Book Fair is coming! It will be open during the school day from October 31st-November 2nd, as well as during International Night. For those out of town family & friends, the Online Book Fair will be available from October 24th-November 7th. If you would like to volunteer to help make this an awesome event, please check out the link below!

This Week:

  • 10/9 – Columbus Day – Open House for Parents/Guardians – Feel free to visit your child’s classroom. Instruction will follow the normal routines.  Please check-in at the office and get a “visitor” sticker.
  • 10/13 – 2nd Cup of Coffee/Merienda/PBOM – On the second or third Friday of the month, Dr. Ennis invites parents to school to meet and then head into the classrooms to read to their child’s class (or another class that could use a reader). Please arrive at 8:45 for a meet/greet and everyone will head to the classrooms at 9:30 for a dance party and reading the book of the month.  Interested in being a volunteer reader? Feel free to contact your child’s teacher or contact Mrs. Jen Lucina at

Halloween Eye Spy – Eye Spy Trains are back on Saturdays and Sundays in October.  The Wheaton Miniature Train & Carousel will be dressed up as “Trainslyvania.”  Please see the link to purchase tickets.
