Happy First Day of School! Welcome to any and all newcomers to the Glen Haven PTA online community. Please spread the word with your fellow parents about our listserv!

TOMORROW: PTA Parent Information Fair: Join us on Tuesday for our first PTA Parent Information Fair (aka our first meeting)! Learn about the PTA! Join the PTA! Find out about plans for the 2015-1016 school year and how you can get involved! Meet other parents! Dinner/meet & greet will take place from 6:30-7; the information fair will run from 7-8. Free childcare will be provided.

Tuesday, Sept. 1 – PTA Parent Information Fair
Our first Spirit Week is the first week of school – it’s like a test for parents to make sure we are paying attention! Like us on Facebook for reminders!
Tuesday, Sept. 1 – Pajama Day (please note students should wear sneakers/regular shoes)
Wednesday, Sept. 2 – Hat & Cap Day!
Thursday, Sept. 3 – Crazy Hair Day!
Friday, Sept. 4 – School Spirit Day

Sept. 7 – NO SCHOOL – Labor Day
Sept. 9 – Back to School Night for Pre-K through 2nd Grade: Come meet your teachers and learn about the curriculum.
Sept. 10 – Back to School Night for 3rd through 5th Grade: Come meet your teachers and learn about the curriculum.
Sept. 14 – NO SCHOOL

Community Events/Other News

Did you take a great first day of school picture? Send your best to the Montgomery County Public Schools – many pics will be shared on the district’s website and social media properties beginning today. Send your best horizontal pic (as a .jpg file no larger than 4MB) to pio@mcpsmd.org. Please include your child’s name, grade level and school. [Note: last names will not be published, and by submitting a photo, you are agreeing to its use for publication on the MCPS website] Or, you can post your pic to Twitter and use the #MCPSfirstday hashtag. Some of the posts will be retweeted by the MCPS Twitter feed.

The MD Department of Transportation’s (MDOT) State Highway Administration is studying ways to improve access for drivers, pedestrians, and bicyclists along Georgia Avenue in the Montgomery Hills shopping area, between Forest Glen Road and 16th Street. Take the survey by Sept. 21. (H/T Finding Forest Glen)
